This paper explores the Mitanin program, a community health worker initiative in Chhattisgarh, India. It highlights the collective identity of Mitanins, emphasizing their sense of solidarity and sisterhood, fostering multi-issue activism. The study reveals that Mitanins go beyond traditional health roles, acting as empowered women leaders dedicated to community welfare. A state-wide survey indicates that 84% of Mitanins engaged in rights-based actions related to food security, healthcare, and gender-based violence. The collective identity is attributed to the program’s movement-building approach and the autonomy granted to Mitanins, allowing them to be frontline rights defenders.
