This review looked at research on community health workers supporting mental health among Indigenous communities in the Amazon region. It found that these workers often act as important links between Indigenous communities and formal health services, helping identify emotional distress early, offering basic support, and guiding people to care. Different countries use different models, with some having formal, stable systems while others rely on temporary projects. However, there is limited strong evidence on how effective these programs are. The study highlights the need for better research and for approaches that are led and shaped by Indigenous communities themselves.
