The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare allowed states to compensate non-licensed healthcare professionals such as CHWs. Since this new guidance was put in place, states have been interested in how to successfully integrate CHWs into their Medicare and Medicaid Health Plans. This report details how the State of Arizona has gone about integrating CHWs into their Medicaid Plan and includes sections on the “Utilization of CHWs in the Health Plan and Contracted Provider Networks”, “Determining the Value of CHWs in Care Management,” “Payment Models to Support CHWs,” among others. It provides policy implications and recommendations for the integration of CHWs into state Medicare and Medicaid Plans.
