This study examines the training community health workers (CHWs) receive on age-friendly healthcare, focusing on the needs of urban older adults. Through focus groups with 17 CHWs and interviews with 10 clinicians, the research found that while CHWs play a crucial role in promoting health for older adults, they feel unprepared to support patients’ mental and mobility needs. Both CHWs and clinicians agreed that areas related to medications and personal priorities are outside the CHWs’ role. The findings highlight the need for improved training for CHWs, particularly in the areas of mental health and mobility, to better support the growing aging population in the U.S.
