This study looked at how Community Health Workers (CHWs) in Rwanda identify children with physical and mental disabilities in their communities. Of the 358 CHWs surveyed, nearly two-thirds had identified at least one child with a disability, and most reported referring these children to health facilities. Female CHWs and those with more years of experience were more likely to identify cases. The study highlights the need for better CHW training, simple screening tools, and stronger referral systems to help children receive support earlier.
