Community Health Worker Interventions for Men: A Scoping Review Using the RE-AIM Framework

by

Authors: Guillermo M Wippold, Kaylyn A Garcia, Sarah Grace Frary, Derek M Griffith

Community health workers (CHWs) play a crucial role in promoting men’s health through tailored approaches. Using the RE-AIM Framework, a review assessed the design, implementation, and outcomes of CHW-led health promotion efforts for men. The study identified that most CHWs interventions targeted men under 50, particularly from underserved populations, resulting in improved health outcomes. These community-based efforts were generally successful with satisfactory retention rates. On the other hand, the study found that while CHW training received much attention, supervision aspects were less emphasized. The authors conclude that CHW-implemented interventions effectively enhance men’s health, suggesting opportunities for future interventions to address mental health and incorporate positive aspects of masculinity in the program.
