This study looked at a large-scale community health worker (CHW) program in Uganda to see if it could continue reducing child deaths, as earlier trials had shown. Two NGOs ran the program in different regions. After a mid-point review showed only small improvements, one NGO (Program A) made major changes, while the other (Program B) made only minor ones. By the end of the study, only Program A showed a significant drop (28%) in child deaths and better health results overall. The findings suggest that CHW programs can stay effective at scale if they are flexible and make improvements based on evidence.
