Community engagement and empowerment to address health inequalities: A rapid evidence review

by

Authors: Huw MacDonald, Martha Martin, Adnaan Ghanchi, Emily Clark, Amy Dehn Lunn, Anna Gkiouleka, Sashika Harasgama, Danielle Lamb, John Ford

This review looked at different ways communities can be involved in improving health. It found strong evidence that community health workers and partnerships with faith-based organizations can help reduce health inequalities, especially in areas like heart disease prevention and cancer screening. The review also showed that culturally tailored approaches work better, but more research is needed to understand the impact of other community engagement methods and how they can improve health equity.
