Community Capacity Building for HIV and Addiction Service Integration: An Intervention Trial in Vietnam

by

Authors: Li Li, Chunqing Lin, Li-Jung Liang, Diep Bich Nguyen, Loc Quang Pham, Tuan Anh Le, Tuan Anh Nguyen

This study describes an intervention trial conducted to improve HIV and addiction-related knowledge and skills among CHWs. Researchers recruited 120 CHWs from four provinces in Vietnam. During the study, CHWs in the treatment group attended both virtual and in-person training sessions, while CHWs in the control group attended a one-time lecture. Surveys were conducted at baseline and three-month intervals until a year post-intervention was reached. Researchers found that participants in the intervention group were more likely to report confidence in providing HIV and addiction services to patients. The results of this study may inform future CHW training and education strategies to combat and prevent HIV and addiction.
