Most neonatal deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), particularly in Sub-saharan Africa. CHWs often encourage delivery in healthcare facilities and ensure timely referral of mothers and newborns. Through a systematic review, the authors of this paper found that the main components of the antenatal, delivery and postnatal care interventions were inadequate, highlighting the need for improved planning before each stage of implementation. This paper emphasizes the importance of thoroughly planning any program prior to implementation, and ensuring that there are measures to enable CHWs and other community health providers.
