Community-based Health Information Systems in the Global Context: a Review of the Literature

by

Authors: MEASURE Evaluation

Increasingly, community health workers are being recognized for their ability to meet critical service gaps in health care systems and improve community health. In order to continue support the work of community workers, better community-based health information systems (CBHIS) are required. These systems involve data collection, management, and analysis of health and related services provided outside of facilities. Additionally, they should enable the sharing of information between community-based services and higher-level health facilities, ideally feeding into national health management information systems. This literature review explores CBHIS in developing countries.
