This article captures results from a qualitative study conducted in India to explore CHWs’ evolving roles and experiences. Through in-depth interviews with 32 CHWs, the study showed CHWs are discontent with treatment by professional health workers. CHWs want the health system to recognize them as individuals dedicated to and working for the development of health and social goals.
