This study looked at how information from community health workers and pharmacies about family planning services is included in national health information systems in five countries (Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria and Uganda). It found that data from community health workers is partly included in most countries, especially for contraceptive services and referrals, but information from pharmacies and drug shops is rarely captured. The study highlights the need for better and more practical ways to collect and use this data to improve family planning, planning and decision-making.
