Capacity Building of “Accredited Social Health Activist” under Rural Health Training Center Regarding Mental Health: An Interventional Study

by

Authors: Mehul Patel, Shobha Misra

This intervention study sought to evaluate the effectiveness of a mental health education program on knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) of ASHAs in Western India during 2016 and 2017. A semi-structured questionnaire was administered to assess KAP regarding mental health in the intervention and control groups. In addition, an educational program was imparted in two batches, involving the utilization of hybrid methods. This program was found to be effective, with results demonstrating a statistically significant improvement in the KAP of ASHAs after intervention implementation. These findings suggest that it is possible to empower ASHAs with a short-course related to mental health while equipping them with improved knowledge, attitudes, and practices for addressing mental health needs.
