This study reviewed capacity-building efforts for health extension workers (HEWs) in Ethiopia. Training was the most common approach, followed by supervision and mentoring. These interventions improved HEWs’ knowledge and skills, leading to better health services and increased community health-seeking behavior. However, little focus was given to areas like motivation, leadership, and communication. Future efforts should address these aspects for a more well-rounded development of HEWs.
