Body composition outcomes of Healthy Fit and the role of acculturation among low-income Hispanics on the US-Mexico border

by

Authors: Diane I. Lopez, Lauren Chacon, Denise Vasquez, and Louis D. Brown

Hispanic immigrants to the United States experience higher rates of negative weight-related health outcomes than non-Hispanic individuals. This longitudinal observational study assessed the effectiveness of a community health worker (CHW) led weight-management intervention, Healthy Fit, focused on nutrition education and promotion of physical activity. The researchers found that the Healthy Fit was more successful for Hispanic immigrants who were less acculturated. They call for more research on the effect of acculturation on immigrant behaviors and health outcomes.
