In Nepal, Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs), (local women chosen by their communities), play a key role in delivering healthcare and education, especially in remote areas. Working closely with women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs), they help improve health by sharing knowledge, connecting people to services, and supporting community-led action. This teamwork is an example of local leadership that works well where resources are limited. However, FCHVs often face challenges like low pay, too much work, and poor training and support. To strengthen their impact, they need fair pay, better training, supervision, digital tools, and support from health systems and governments. Recognizing and investing in their work can help build stronger, fairer healthcare systems.
