Bangladesh: 50 Years of Advances in Health and Challenges Ahead

by

Authors: Henry B. Perry, Ahmed Mushtaque Raza Chowdhury

In this review, the authors discuss the recently published book, ’50 Years of Bangladesh: Advances in Health’, highlighting the positive strides the country has made in health and development since gaining independence in 1971. Initially the world’s second poorest nation, Bangladesh has transformed into a lower-middle income country, showcasing a range of innovative approaches in implementing top-tier development and health programs. However, despite the notable accomplishments, there remain significant challenges that must be addressed in the next 50 years to attain universal health coverage and realize the goal of “Health for All.” The authors propose six key priorities for adoption by various stakeholders to tackle these challenges and pave the way for a healthier future.
