Assessing the Understandability and Actionability of Education Materials for Agricultural Workers’ Health

by

Authors: Julianna Nieuwsma, Joseph G L Lee, Jamie E Bloss, Catherine E LePrevost, Israel M Mendez, Emery L Harwell, Leslie E Cofie

This study looked at health education materials used by community health workers and Extension agents to teach farmworkers. Researchers reviewed 602 materials in English and Spanish from across the U.S. and rated how easy they were to understand and use. Most materials were handouts, brochures, or posters, and scored well overall. However, some topics had fewer resources, and many materials could be updated for digital use. The findings highlight the need for better tools in certain areas and offer a way to improve future health education for farmworkers.
