Assessing community health workers’ conditions for delivering care to patients in low-income communities.

This article looks at the barriers faced by community health workers (CHWs) in performing house calls in low-income and violent communities. The objective is to understand the challenges with regards to access to primary health care in developing countries. The study was carried out through field investigations in two clinics and telephone surveys with a sample of about 1,690 community health workers in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
