Acceptability of a practical geriatric assessment intervention with older adult cancer survivors and community health workers/promotoras: a qualitative investigation

by

Authors: Alex J Fauer, Sandra Calderon, Quynh Vo, Miriam Hernandez, Angela Usher, Chad Y Han, Frederick J Meyers, Diana L Miglioretti

This study explored whether a community health worker–led assessment program would be acceptable for supporting older cancer survivors. Researchers spoke with community health workers (promotoras) and cancer survivors to understand their views. Both groups felt the approach was useful because it could help identify health challenges, support daily living needs, and connect survivors with clinical cancer care. The findings suggest that community health workers could play an important role in supporting older cancer survivors through community-based assessment, education, and support.
