Acceptability of a community health worker-led health literacy intervention on lifestyle modification among hypertensive and diabetes patients in the City of Harare, Zimbabwe

by

Authors: Nyaradzai Arster Katena, Shepherd Shamu, Golden Tafadzwa Fana, Evans Dewa, Admire Dombojena, Simbarashe Rusakaniko

This study explored whether a community health worker-led program to promote healthy lifestyles was acceptable to patients with high blood pressure and diabetes in Harare, Zimbabwe. The program included home and clinic visits with education and support. Interviews and focus groups with patients, nurses, and health workers showed overall positive feedback. Participants believed the program improved health and lifestyle habits, though some patients struggled with certain recommendations. While benefits outweighed challenges, future programs should provide more support for health workers and address patient concerns.
