In this study, researchers sought to assess the impact of training on knowledge and skills of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) in primary eye care services. Researchers recruited 102 ASHAs from South Delhi, India. Participants received one-day vision screening training and were assessed by researchers for their overall vision screening skill. Using a pre- and post-test design, researchers found a significant increase in knowledge scores immediately after training and at one year follow-up. Additionally, immediately after training, 86 percent of participants had a satisfactory skill rating, while 77 percent were rated satisfactory at one-year follow-up. Overall, this study shows positive results for a potential training strategy which would equip CHWs with the skills to provide primary eye care services to their communities.
