A Scoping Review of the Community Health Worker Model Used for Food Systems Interventions Within the United States

June 5, 2023 By

Authors: Maria DeNunzio,Makenzie Miller, Melissa Chase, Vivica Kraak, Elena Serrano, Sarah Misyak

The purpose of this study was to document and analyze food systems interventions delivered by CHWs serving as educators within the United States. These programs reached many underserved racial and socioeconomic populations, and CHWs educated for the highest number of food system processes in garden-based interventions. The findings emphasize the importance of the CHW workforce in food system education within diverse and underserved communities while suggesting for future work to be focused on garden-based food systems education.
