This study focused on people with HIV who use substances and are recently released from jail. It tested a combined intervention involving community health workers (CHW) and a re-entry organization to improve HIV and substance use outcomes. Results showed improved substance use outcomes but no significant difference in HIV viral suppression outcomes compared to standard care. However, the intervention helped meet basic needs like food and housing security. Further development of culturally informed interventions is needed to address the complex needs of this population after release from jail.
