Perinatal depression is common in Nepal, but it often goes undetected. This study aimed to adapt community strategies to improve awareness and detection. The study modified a community sensitization program and the Community Informant Detection Tool (CIDT) through a four-step process. First, the authors conducted interviews and focus groups with women with perinatal depression, health workers, female community health volunteers, and psychosocial counselors to understand local views on depression. Second, they prepared a draft based on these insights. Third, held a workshop to refine the content with counselors and health workers. Finally, a psychiatrist reviewed the materials. The adapted tools now include local terms for depression, common risk factors, myths, and the role of family support. These tools are designed to be clear and easy to use by community health workers in the Nepalese context.
