This review looked at how community health workers are trained to help prevent heart disease and stroke in low- and middle-income countries. It found that many training programs focus on basic tasks like screening and health talks but miss key areas. These include how to communicate in ways that fit local culture, support people to change habits, understand data, navigate the health system, and receive proper supervision. Training also rarely addresses CHWs’ attitudes, confidence, and motivation, even though these matter for their work. The review shows that current training is not enough and calls for clearer, more practical training that fully prepares CHWs to prevent heart disease and stroke in their communities.
