This study explores how Medicaid reimbursement for community health workers (CHWs) affects their integration into healthcare settings and their practice. A survey of CHWs and Medicaid officials in the US revealed that reimbursement enhances CHWs’ ability to help patients access needed care and increases Medicaid enrollment while decreasing disenrollment. Consistent funding and reimbursement are identified as critical needs for CHWs. The findings suggest that reimbursement can stabilize CHW funding and boost the uptake of preventative services among Medicaid enrollees, highlighting its potential to improve healthcare access and outcomes. Further research is needed to quantify the impact of reimbursement on these outcomes.
