As cities in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) grow rapidly, healthcare research has mostly focused on rural areas, overlooking urban health challenges. This review explores how insights from sociology can improve understanding of urban health issues, particularly in community health worker (CHW) programs. It highlights key urban features like diversity, crowded living conditions, job insecurity, and crime, which impact CHWs and their work. The study proposes a framework to help researchers and policymakers better design urban health programs that reflect the unique realities of city life in LMICs.
