The SPICES-Sussex study in the UK aimed to develop and implement a community-based intervention for cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk reduction among under-served populations. Using a hybrid implementation design, the study engaged Voluntary and Community and Social Enterprises (VCSE), and Community Health Workers (CHWs). Results showed significant improvements in CVD risk factors among intervention participants, with high acceptability of the personalized approach. While half of the approached VCSEs participated, challenges included embedding CHWs in healthcare contexts and maintaining participant engagement. Despite these challenges, VCSEs expressed interest in continuing the intervention, highlighting the potential for community engagement in healthcare. Further research is needed to bridge the gap between sectors and effectively reach vulnerable populations. This study guides future community engagement efforts for health improvement.
