This study explores the experiences of 9 Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Peer Counselors in Southeast Texas regarding their role in supporting breastfeeding among WIC participants. Through face-to-face interviews, counselors shared novel approaches including using their expertise, involving family members, providing round-the-clock support, and identifying equipment needs. Their deep understanding of WIC clients’ breastfeeding culture and rapport-building skills make them valuable resources for improving breastfeeding rates and overall health. Health providers should acknowledge and utilize the significant contributions of WIC Peer Counselors by referring pregnant and postpartum individuals to WIC for breastfeeding education and support.
