In the TIME made simple trial (SIMPLE), this study conducted a secondary analysis focusing on healthcare utilization and factors influencing hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels among low-income, uninsured Hispanics with or at risk for type 2 diabetes. The study compared outcomes between groups receiving telehealth-supported community health worker (CHW) interventions and standard care. Results showed that the intervention group had fewer missed visits and higher COVID vaccination rates than the control group. Surprisingly, improved HbA1c levels were associated with more missed visits in the intervention group, while guideline-adherent practices showed mixed results. These findings highlight the potential of CHW interventions to positively impact diabetes management and suggest areas for further exploration.
