Mind the gap – a new resource developed by and for CHWs working on HIV and sexual health is aiming to fill a gap in accessible information

Background

Community health workers (CHWs) support millions of people living with, or at risk of, HIV in Southern Africa. They are often people’s first point of contact with the health system. However, to play an effective role, CHWs need access to up-to-date, clear, accurate, and user-friendly information on HIV and sexual health. There are currently few ways for CHWs to get this information, and many still rely on word of mouth for new information, with the biases and misinformation that can follow.

“Success lies within the community:” A comprehensive approach to sustainably strengthening the health system though a village health worker-centered program

Program Context: The Comprehensive Rural Health Project (CRHP) is a local non-governmental organization (NGO) serving over 250 villages around Jamkhed in rural Maharashtra, India. Each village has an average population of 1,000. When CRHP was founded in 1970, health indicators in the area were among the worst in India.
