This report discusses the implementation of a program that trained community health workers in southern India to identify hypertensive patients, refer them to a physician, and assist with lifestyle interventions and medications. 

Monitoring of hearing and language in primary health care: project pilot

This paper examines the feasibility of implementing a monitoring program for neonatal hearing conducted by community health workers. The results from the first six months were unsatisfactory; training may address some of the issues in implementing this monitoring program.

Feasibility and acceptability of training community health workers in ear and hearing care in Malawi: a cluster randomised controlled trial

This cluster randomised controlled trial looked at the ability to train CHWs in Malawi to identify individuals with ear and hearing disorders. The intervention and training were effective and could be scaled up to CHWs in other countries.

Improving the performance of community health workers in Swaziland: findings from a qualitative study

Despite Swaziland's large CHW program, the performance of CHWs in Swaziland has not been studied. This qualitative study hopes to contribute to future program design and improvements to current programs.

The global pendulum swing towards community health workers in low- and middle-income countries: a scoping review of trends, geographical distribution and programmatic orientations, 2005 to 2014

This review incorporated publications on CHWs that were published from 2005 to 2014. Specifically, the paper investigates the development, placement, and orientations of programs in low- and middle-income countries. Most programs were disease or program specific, rather than using an integrated approach.
