The community health worker as interlocutor in complementary feeding in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

This paper assesses the knowledge of community health workers (CHWs) regarding complementary feeding and it factors that influence its practice- socioeconomic, work schedules and resources available in primary health care facilities. Questionnaires were designed to test their knowledge and comparisons were drawn between responses recorded from health services and CHWs.

Assessing community health workers' conditions for delivering care to patients in low-income communities.

This article looks at the barriers faced by community health workers (CHWs) in performing house calls in low-income and violent communities. The objective is to understand the challenges with regards to access to primary health care in developing countries. The study was carried out through field investigations in two clinics and telephone surveys with a sample of about 1,690 community health workers in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Cluster Randomized Trial for Hypertension Control: Effect on Lifestyles and Body Weight.

Lifestyle modifications such as a healthy diet, regular physical activity and maintaining a health weight are important practices for hypertensive individuals. In this cluster randomized trail, conducted between 2013 to 2016, community health workers (CHWs) delivered a multicomponent intervention targeting hypertensive patients at the health system, provider and family level. It also included sending out tailored text messages for 18 months.

Assessment of the Knowledge of Brazilian Community Health Workers regarding prenatal care

The provision of routine prenatal care is a crucial step towards reduction of health risks in women and their children that is typically the responsibility of primary health providers, often carried out by community health workers (CHWs). This cross-sectional study ascertained CHW awareness regarding (1) their general responsibilities (2) initial contact with pregnant women (3) recommended examinations and vaccinations for pregnant women (4) pregnancy complications and signs of labor and (5) lifestyle considerations for pregnant women.
